Aluminum hydroxide, Al (OH) 3, reacts with acids to form salts and water and reacts with strong bases to form salts and water, therefore it is an amphoteric hydroxide. Due to a certain degree of acid, it can be called aluminic acid (H3AlO3). But actually reacts with the base to produce a tetrahydroxyaluminate ([Al (OH) 4] -). So it is usually regarded as a bauxite (HAlO2 · H2O). According to the usage, aluminum hydroxide can be industrial grade and pharmaceutical grade.
Aluminum hydroxide is one of most widely used inorganic flame retardant additives. Aluminum hydroxide can also for fire-retardant, prevent smoke, no droppings, no toxic gases, with wider range of applications.
