Silicon Carbide used as refractory material

Product Description:

Silicon carbide (SiC) is made from quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal), wood (it need to add salt for the production of green silicon carbide) and other raw materials. Silicon carbide is also known as Moissanite. Silicon carbide is the most widely used refractory in C, N, B and other high-tech non-oxide refractory raw material, which can be called emery or refractory sand.

Now China's industrial production silicon carbide is divided into black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, Both are hexagonal crystals with specific gravity of 3.20 - 3.25, the hard silicon carbide is of 2840 ~ 3320kg / mm2.

SiC Mohs hardness: 9.2, Vickers hardness of microscopic density: 3000--3300kg / mm2, Knoop hardness: 2670--2815kg / mm, microscopic hardness: 3300kg / mm3, which is higher than that of corundum abrasive and second to that of diamond, cubic boron nitride and boron carbide. Density is generally considered to be 3.20g / mm3, natural bulk density of silicon carbide abrasive between 1.2--1.6g / mm3, specific gravity: 3.20 3.25. Black silicon carbide takes petroleum coke and silica as the main raw material and salt as additive and processed by high temperature resistance furnace smelting. Compared with green silicon carbide, black silicon carbide has lower purity, hardness, friability.
